So the show season has begun again and this year Lockerbie Lamb will once again writing a blog of his travels with the Broomwell Ryeland flock. And this year he will be joined on his journeys by his cousin Lulu who has a particular interest in the fledgling Damson Brae Coloured Flock, also based here at Broomwell.
Lesmahagow Show
The last Saturday in May was the first outing of the show season and the first time my cousin Lulu joined us for a road trip. Here we are setting off:
In the trailer we had two Ryelands and four Coloured Ryelands and there was a bit or rivalry between me and my cousin as to who would do the best. I was flying the flag for the Broomwell Ryelands while she was supporting the Damson Brae Coloured Ryelands.
The weather stayed nice at the show - we had heard there might have been thunderstorms but fortunately they didn't arrive until we were already on the way home.
The manger was on her own at this show - assistant LB away on a girly spa weekend - imagine!
Very happy to report that me and my cousin were equally happy after judging - and the manager was very happy. Broomwell Wallander won the Ryeland championship, repeating his success of last year.
Then Whisper won the Coloured Championship to complete a fabulous start to the season,
Here is me and Lulu - happy with a trophy each!
The journey home wasn't such fun - the threatened thunderstorm erupted and we drove through a monsoon
- but the noise of the rain still didn't drown out the talking book. Yes, the manager is still listening to those detective novels. Still, its better than her singing along to the radio!
The next day, four of the show team went along to the Barony agricultural open day and were part of the display of animals in the barn for the public to meet. Lulu and I didn't go along as we were a bit tired (actually, I think the manager just forgot about us!) but the sheep were happy to meet the public and enjoyed their day out.
