Jen's Story

Before Lockerbie Lamb reappears for the season with tales of his summer travels with the flock,
Broomwell Ryelands would like to give a wee shout out to Jennifer.

Jen was born in 2007 and 10 years on she is still going strong and delivered her 14th lamb this year. Whilst I recognise that this is by no means anything unusual for Ryelands, she is just a bit of a favourite of mine, hence her moment in the spotlight.
She was sired by Broomwell Alleluiah, He was the first lamb born at Broomwell after the foot and mouth cull of 2001.
Jen's dam was a Keepings ewe from the flock of the late Malcolm Collins.
She was shown as a lamb, shearling and as a breeding ewe and was almost always among the prizes. She is a ewe bursting with character and even in her advancing years is still very much the boss of the flock.
So much so she had to be removed from one group of ewes last year as she took a dislike to two of her field-mates and made her feelings very clear!
In her fourteen lambs, she has given us a real variety: quite a few singles, one or two twin and a set of triplets. She has produced a couple of lovely coloured lambs in her time too.
For various reasons, I have not retained any of her lambs, something I was hoping to rectify this year so we anxiously awaited her as her due date approached
And bless her, she presented us with a lovely ewe lamb on March 15 - needless to say this will be a keeper.
This is Baby Jen, or Jenette, pictured at six weeks old.

It is likely that we will now retire Jen and let her enjoy a lovely retirement which she richly deserves.
